General Information
What is a digital signage network (DSN)?
A Digital Signage Network
(DSN) is digital displays that replace traditional
signage
in your business. DSN's can be as small as
a computer monitor or as large as a 72 sq.
ft. Digital Mural. DSN's can be one screen
or groups of up
to 6 screens. A DSN can be displays in different
places in the same location or spread out
from coast-to-coast. A DSN is really whatever
you need to effectively communicate your message
to your customers.
Very simply, images or animation prepared
on a computer, using many of today's leading
graphics software packages, is sent to an
installed DSN screen at your place of business.
The computer technology accompanying your
DSN screen (or screens!) interprets the image
or animation data, then displays it for your
public audience to see. The sophistication
of DSN technology allows it to more than just
display images, however. A DSN screen can
handle multiple channels of pictures, animation,
live video and sound, helping your advertising
to literally jump off the wall at your patrons!
Look
at your present signage and imagine a Digital Poster
or Bannner in its place. Product shots on a restaurant
menu board can come to life with computer graphic
images and animations changing quickly and easily
to feature a variety of products and specials. Update
interest rates immediately in financial institutions.
In clothing stores, show the same outfit on the same
model in different colors by changing images.
Customers
are attracted by motion. A DSN player is capable of
displaying computer animations with video that draw
attention to your message. Regularly changing pictorials
hold the customer's interest. DSN plasma displays
a series of images like a slide show. A DSN player
can be easily programmed to cycle various images at
certain times of the day at a particular location
so that you can tailor your message to a particular
target demographic with speed and precision.
Plus,
a DSN can pay for itself when you sell co-op advertising
time on it. Put
logos, messages, or images from suppliers and complimentary
businesses on your system.
How
do I create computer graphic images that a DSN
can display?
Any
program that can create the kind of files
that the DSN supports can be used to create
an image. Some of these programs are Corel
Draw, Corel PhotoPaint, Adobe Illustrator,
Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and many photo
or illustration softwares. MPEG files can
be encoded from original digital video like
Quicktime (MOV) or Avid Media Composer (AVI)
with a variety of software suites available
in the market to encode video clips into MPEG
1 and 2. Material video produced in VHS or
betacam can also be encoded into MPEG files
that can be display in the DSN, usually this
material is encoded through production houses
that can do the job at great rates for you.
How
do I distribute images to all the DSN Players
in my Network?
All
the show information in your Central (updated
images, MPEGs, schedules local slots, etc.)
are bundled and compressed by your Central
and sent via phone line to each Player site.
Full data receipt and transmission via WAN
(TAPI), Internet mail and / or LAN is also
available as well as satellite communication
as a licensed option.
What
is a DSN Local Content Updater (LCU)?
The
Local Content Updater works as a partner to
a Player. The LCU software can be install on
any computer and is used to add new images with
a regional subject to a national show located
on a Player. Using the Local Content Updater,
you get local information from the Player, assigns
images to local slots already programmed in
a show, and send the images and local slot information
back to the Player.
